Overview 

 

The Certificate in Credit Union Operations has been specifically designed by LIA for those working in the Credit Union Movement. The course comprises four modules, and provides a route to up to four professional Credit Union designations – Credit Union Adviser (CUA), Credit Union Governance (CUG), Credit Union Compliance (CUC) and, new for the 2021 Academic Year, APA (Loans).

 

Course Aims

 

This course will provide you with specialist knowledge and the ability to:
  • identify the ethos, structure and operation of credit unions, illustrate the different types of savings, loan and insurance products provided by credit unions, and demonstrate competence in providing professional advice on the savings, loans and additional financial services which credit unions provide for their members;
  • demonstrate an understanding of the general governance and regulatory obligations of credit unions, assess the main features of the compliance programme of a credit union, and illustrate risk management and financial management as they relate to credit unions;
  • demonstrate an understanding of the main regulatory requirements relating to the marketing of financial services products and to the sales / advisory process pertaining to such products;
  • evaluate the needs of consumers for mortgage credit agreements, housing loans, home reversion agreements, consumer credit agreements, and associated insurances.

 

Designations

 

It is not necessary to complete all four modules in order to obtain the LIA designations:

CUA = Credit Union Practices + QFA Regulation

CUG = Credit Union Governance & Risk

CUC = Credit Union Governance & Risk + QFA Regulation

APA (Loans) = QFA Loans + QFA Regulation
