Leading figures in Wexford business circles have released the results of a recent study, which found that Wexford is a top choice destination for companies and organisations hosting conferences.
According to the Wexford Chamber, the town is top of the list in terms of business tourism. The Chamber perceived that the town was underutilized in terms of its potential as an out-of-Dublin conference and business tourism destination. Madeleine Quirke CEO Wexford Chamber said “Wexford town is strategically located in the South East of the country with easy access by sea routes from the UK and Europe, an air route via Waterford from the UK, an air route via Dublin from the rest of the world, road links from Dublin, Waterford, Cork and Galway, rail links from Dublin and a public and private transport bus system from Dublin, Dublin Airport and Waterford Airport.”
Madeleine added that Wexford can provide excellent accommodation, conference venues, interesting and different tourist attractions and activities, a strong reputation as a leisure tourist destination, price competitiveness and friendly people. We can accommodate large conferences in our hotels and in our Opera House and we have an excellent reputation insofar as restaurants, bars and clubs are concerned. We also have a number of other tourist attractions within easy reach of Wexford Town.
“Wexford hotels, transport providers, tourist attractions and activities now need to work collaboratively and co-operatively in order to build links and market Wexford as a strong business tourism destination” said Madeleine. “There is great scope to develop an integrated marketing strategy for the town, to build an integrated conference ambassador/champion programme and to build on the reputation that Wexford already has as a leisure tourism destination” she concluded.
