David Killeen is chairman of the Irish Franchise Association and managing partner of Killeen & Associates, franchise specialists. He holds a B.Comm from UCD, Diploma in Strategic Planning through the IMI and is a graduate member of the IITD. As General Manager, Retail Brands Division of Vantage Wholesale, David was instrumental in launching the Costcutter retail brand in Ireland. He then acquired unique expertise in business format franchising while working with Statoil. David was mentored through best practice franchise principles by international franchise experts from the States and shares that expertise, his specialist knowledge and own hands on experience through his franchise consultancy practice.

David will provide an overall introduction to franchising, outlining the key advantages and disadvantages of business format franchising as a growth strategy and pose questions that will assist business owners assess the suitability of their business to pursue growth both domestically and internationally through franchising.

Declan Hanly is a qualified accountant and an associate member of Chartered Accountants Ireland.  He joined Hughes Blake in 2008 and works in the firm’s Corporate Recovery and Insolvency Department.  He has worked in all areas of Insolvency with a particular expertise in the area of Examinerships and Personal Insolvency.  In addition to being a Chartered Accountant he holds a Certificate in Personal Insolvency and is a member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners.

5 years on from the governments bank guarantee, many businesses and individuals are still crippled with unsustainable levels of bank borrowings.  I will look at the options available to both companies and individuals for managing these borrowings and the possibilities for operating as a stronger financial entity into the future.
