Back to the 50s for festival competition

Hopes are high for a great atmosphere for the 70th Anniversary of Wexford Festival Opera this year and the buzz for the festival is already under way as, on Friday business owners were encouraged to get their thinking caps on ahead of a special window display competition for the duration of this year’s festival in October.

Sponsored by Skytel Rocket Broadband, the competition is encouraging local businesses to get involved and help foster a fantastic atmosphere by decorating their windows. In a tribute to the establishment of Wexford Festival Opera by Dr Tom Walsh and local volunteers in 1951, the theme this year is ‘Wexford in the 1950s’.

The winners will be awarded a cash prize of 500 each and will be invited to host a pop-up Event during the 71st Wexford Festival Opera in 2022. Those participating are asked to send a picture of their display by Wednesday October 13th. The judging panel will visit all participating shops on Friday, October 15th and then the winner will be announced on Saturday, October 16th.

A creative team at Wexford Festival Opera is available to assist with any window display ideas and should business owners need some help with sourcing vintage props. For more information or for a helping hand, contact richella@wexfordopera.com
