Chamber Celebrates with Sam McCauleys

Over 40 business people attended a free Business After Hours at Sam McCauleys Chemist, Redmond Square, Wexford on Tuesday 10th May, in association with Wexford Chamber.

The Sam McCauley Chemist Group currently operates 28 stores nationally, with a strong presence in Counties Carlow, Cavan, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow. The Group employs over 570 staff and has an annual turnover in excess of Euro 80M.

The group also operates an online business and a new wholesaling division which are both run from their support office in Ardcavan.
The first store outside of Enniscorthy was opened in 1991 in Redmond Square in Wexford.  Housing a Digital Photo Centre, beauty spa & salon as well as an extensive range of cosmetics, fragrance, jewellery and cameras .

Sam McCauley’s in Redmond Square recently completed a major  store refit with an investment of over half a million euro . This  has resulted in a much improved retail offer and the addition of a robotic dispensing system .

Fleur Creed, President of Wexford Chamber welcomed everyone and said that she remembers when Sam McCauley’s chemist opened in 1991. A lot of people said it wouldn’t last “ its great to see one of our home grown, doing really well”.

Patrick McCormack, Managing Director of the Sam McCauley Group, said he started as a pharmacist back in August 1991, and gradually made his way up to managing director. In 1991 there was 15 staff and 4,000 Square Feet. Sam McCauley’s was the only pharmacy in Ireland that had a hairdresser and sunbed facility and people came from all over Ireland for it.

Mr McCormack said they are delighted to use local suppliers and now have 50% more shop space since the refit. Patrick paid tribute to the dedication of the team in Sam McCauleys.  He closed by saying that every single customer is equal, no matter how much they spend.           

CEO Wexford Chamber, Madeleine Quirke said that she was delighted to see how well Wexford was doing in the retail sector.

A tour was given of the salon & Spa and those present were able to see the new Robotic dispensing system at work.

The winner of the €150 Sam McCauley Hamper was Rory McCall from Celtic Link Ferries.
