€7 million fund to enhance streetscapes and shopfronts in rural towns and villages

County Wexford Chamber Welcomes Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD announcement of a €7 Million Fund to support the enhancement of streetscapes and shopfronts in over 50 rural towns and villages.

 

The new initiative, that is a key part of Our Rural Future, the government’s ambitious five-year policy for Rural Ireland that commits to assisting in the regeneration and development of rural towns and villages.

 

The €7 Million fund will provide support to property owners to improve the facades of their buildings and will make our rural towns and villages more vibrant and attractive places to live, work and visit across County Wexford.

 

Speaking this morning County Wexford Chamber Deputy CEO Emma Dunphy said “The Streetscapes Enhancement initiative will help rejuvenate our town centres along with making them an attractive place to live, work and visit. Outdoor dining is here to stay which has brought vibrancy and optimism to our towns.”

 

The Streetscape Enhancement Measure will be administered by Local Authorities who will be requested to nominate at least two towns per county. The participating towns and villages will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

 

County Wexford has been placed in funding Band B and is set to receive 260k. Eligible works that can be financed under the new initiative include painting of building/shopfront, upgrade/restoration of traditional shopfront facades, murals, green enhancement of entrances/terraces with planting, decluttering and repair of shopfronts, careful illumination and lighting of architectural features of buildings, canopies/awnings complementary to the materials of the shopfront and building, replacement of signage with traditional wooden fascia with wooden/hand painted lettering and contemporary design Improvements to shopfront window displays and staging.
