Joyces of Wexford Showcase as the Leading Electrical Retailer
in the South East

The focus was on modern technology at Wexford Chamber’s recent Business After Hours Networking Event in Joyces of Wexford on Thursday 13th October.  Over 50 local business people attended the event and the networking opportunities were plentiful as always, with Chamber members doing business, swopping cards and getting referral business.

There was great anticipation as guests had an opportunity to experience the new PlayStation VR, a virtual reality head-mounted display developed by Sony, which only launched in store that same evening – a great taking point on the night.  IT Experts were on hand to showcase the newest products to the market from Apple, Lenovo and Epson, while many of the ladies experienced the game-changing Dyson Supersonic hair dryer with a complimentary blow dry on the night! Apple experts were in-store demonstrating how the latest technology with Apple ipad for business can increase productivity in your business by up to 20%.  Chef Tony Carty demonstrated a mouth-watering selection of Canapés, which guests were only too happy to sample.

Joyces of Wexford, who celebrated 72 years trading this year, is run by brothers Derek and Murt Joyce and are members of Expert Ireland.

Attendees heard how Murt Joyce Senior started out in 1944 by opening a hardware warehouse on North Main Street in Wexford town. In the 40’s trading was challenging and Murt Joyce regularly cycled to Dublin to source products. With expanded product lines, a move to a larger premises took place in the early 1960’s to South Main street, where he also opened a china and gift shop followed by a second appliance store at Custom House Quay.  A dedicated Hardware Store opened in the 90’s at Anne Street. With the continued growth of the business, Derek and Murt made the decision to relocate the electrical department to an impressive16,000 sq ft premises in Clonard Retail Park in 2004, where they continue to provide the same first class service their father did.

Madeleine Quirke, CEO of Wexford Chamber congratulated Derek, Murt and all the team on what could only be described as a fantastic success story.  Madeleine commented, “Joyces of Wexford has long been a household name in County Wexford. The Joyces family tradition is as strong as ever and with the next generation studying business, we hope that this tradition will continue for many years to come.”

Delighted to be able to showcase the store to the local business community, Derek Joyce thanked everyone for coming and said, “Our family business has expanded considerably since the early days, developing strong product associations with an extensive list of top brand names and it has seen many changes over the years, for example, we have introduced in-house cookery courses for adults and children, which are proving very popular.”

The evening ended with a business card draw. Andrew Owen of Bank of Ireland won a fantastic Lenovo Yoga Tablet, brand new to the market and Donal O’Keeffe of AIB Bank won a Nespresso machine.
