Historical Local Calendar mark 150 years for Warren Estates

The team at Warren Estates are giving back to the community this Christmas as well as marking 150 years in business in 2021 with a calendar containing photos of Gorey and Courtown’s past.

On the front of the calendar, you will see a commissioned piece by Gorey artist Kate Kos of Warren’s but inside you will find historical scenes including an aerial shot of the town from the 1950s. Others include a picture of a foot and bicycle race from 1906 on Esmond street as well as an old shot of Courtown Harbour, some of Gorey’s first motorcars, the Market House in 1866 and the old Ramsfort Hotel in Gorey.

It was Niall and Ciara Slattery of Warren’s who first came up with the idea for a historical calendar, but they had help in sourcing the photographs from local historians Pat Power and Will Willoughby as well as Michael Stokes. Keeping things local, Claire O’Connell of the Gaslamp Gallery and Brian Kinsella also lent their talents for creating the calendar which is free to collect from today (Tuesday) at Warren Estates on Gorey’s Main Street.

It was way back in 1871 when the business was founded by George Wellington Warren and today it is one of the longest established Auctioneering firms in the country. Speaking to Niall Slattery, he explained why the business has stood the test of time. ‘There’s a lot of trust when you’re well established and as we’re here for so long, people must think we are doing something right. We’re not tied in with any of the big national brands, so we can have that bit more of a personal touch. 80%volume is 80%

‘If we give people advice, they’ll believe it because we’re not always doing it for our own benefit and at times we might tell people that now is not the right time to sell. Like everything we do, we wanted this calendar to be local and we want to thank everyone who helped us as they did a really good job. ‘It has been a funny year but it has been a busy year and Gorey has benefited from it and we hope now that the calendar brings about some nostalgia, and there are interesting pieces in that the long-established Gorey people like ourselves will remember from years ago’.

Congratulations to Warren Estates on celebrating their 150 years in business and for their beautiful calendar.
