Inaugural Traditional Kite Flying and Balloon Festival Announced in Wexford

A brand new festival featuring some old-fashioned events has been announced in Wexford. The Kite Flying and Ballooning festival is set to attract families to Duncannon Beach for some traditional family fun during the June bank-holiday weekend. The festivies begin on Saturday evening with a Ping Pong Ball race from the top of the Village to the beach and on Sunday, May 31st the festival will host a number of free family fun activities including Kite making Workshops from noon to 2pm on the Green in Duncannon Village and Kite Flying and lessons on Duncannon Beach from 2pm to 4pm. A bumper raffle is also on offer with chance to win a hot air balloon ride for two! Organisers of the festival say they plan to revive the ‘good old fashion family fun day out’ Philip Wallace of the Duncannon Village Renewal says, “We are delighted to launch a brand new Festival for Wexford, the country is filled with festivals these days however we felt that there was a niche for a traditional, good old fashioned day out festival where activities from days gone by are revived. The will be flying hundreds of small kites, ones which some kids today may never have had the chance to try out before, so we look forward to welcoming lots of families to Duncannon over the June bank holiday weekend.” A Hot Air Balloon will also take to the beach offering children a chance to ‘lift-off’ in its tethered basket.  A Chilli Cook Off for some of the older members of the family will also be on offer on Sunday afternoon from 4pm along with Water Zorbing and Surf Riding with live music commencing in the afternoon and into the evening with a music trail at the various village venues later in the evening. The majority of events are free and some are on offer for a nominal fee. For further festival details see www.visitwexford.ie
