County Wexford Chamber welcomes the news that Pamela Scott is to open its largest Irish store in Gorey next month

WOMEN’S FASHION OUTLET Pamela Scott has announced a new store on Gorey’s Main Street which will be the brand’s largest store in Ireland creating 15 jobs.  The new store will be open in mid March and cater for women of all ages and will also introduce home ware for the first time at the former Redmond Construction premises.

Director of Pamela Scott, Richard Barron said that it was due to demand from customers that the company took the decision to re-open bigger in Gorey after it closed its previous Main Street store in 2020.  “When we reopened stores last year we were taken aback by the amount of people who went into our Wexford stores, our stores across the country and on social media asking for Pamela Scott to be back in Gorey because people really missed them. If it was just one or two people saying it we mightn’t have done anything but it was just a crazy amount of people contacting us.  We had a chat and realised the scale of the demand and Gorey had always been a good town for us as it’s small but busy. We found a location on Gorey Main Street and it’s about 4,500 square feet, we previously had 1,800 square feet which was restrive, and it’ll now be our biggest stores of the 21 that we have. We haven’t opened a new store for quite a long time so we’ve put a lot of time and effort into this being a very exciting development”.

He added that due to its size, it should attract returning and new customers as it will have the biggest and best offering. “It’s a big deal for the group as we’ll have new and exciting brands to introduce from day and evening wear to business, and although everyone knows the brands and products we do in shoes and accessories, we’ll be branching out into home ware as well which will be launched in Gorey and online. We ant to make this more of a lifestyle store to be suitable for more age groups but we also want to use it as a space to promote other local businesses, such as crafts or whatever there is out there. We will give a space to local products and designers as part of the retail store”.

He added that the pandemic has changed retail utterly but that he has every faith in people coming to Gorey for Pamela Scott.  “We can’t wait to see our customers back as we want them to know we’ve listened to them and we’re delighted to open here. The pandemic has changed people’s shopping habits and cities are still quiet and people are unsure about them. We saw an awful lot of closures in retail, so we find that as long as there’s a good offering the more local stores are proving more popular with a lot of footfall. Retail is very simple because although we have online, people still love going into the stores to get a feel for products and having a chat with the staff as they provide a good service.  “Gorey has great retail and great restaurants, places to stay and we see that for the next couple of years people will be more than happy to shop local,” he said.

County Wexford Chamber welcomed the return of the store to Gorey.  “This truly shows Pamela Scott’s confidence in county Wexford and what we have to offer both from a work and lifestyle point of view along with a wide range of talent to choose from,” said Emma Dunphy.  “This will provide a great boost for the town and its well known reputation for a fantastic retail town to visit. We have some truly vibrant retailers across Wexford, both established and new and it is in all of our interest to support them.  We have all a renewed appreciation for local businesses since the start of the pandemic, it is important that we stay engaged with shopping locally,” she said.
