Live register data points to need to support domestic economy

Wexford Chamber commenting on the slight increase in the standardised unemployment rate in November believes this is a further signal that the Government needs to focus on strengthening the domestic economy in Budget 2012.

Madeleine Quirke, Wexford Chamber Chief Executive said, “Given that standardised unemployment in November 2011 increased slightly since October 2011 to 14.5pc, we need to be mindful of the impact of fiscal changes on the employment market.”

“With Budget 2012 just days away, the Government must ensure that the domestic economy is a top priority to sustain existing jobs and support new job creation. All fiscal and regulatory changes arising from the Budget should be job proofed to ensure that their impacts are fully understood and mitigated where possible” Quirke concluded.
