The 62nd Wexford Festival Opera kicked on last Wednesday evening with an almighty bang! The festival’s opening night is a key date in the community’s cultural calendar and this spectacular event attracted upwards of 20,000 people. Renowned Wexford author Eoin Colfer officially launched the festival, just before a sensational fireworks display filled the skyline, thanks to sponsors Energia.
While the colourful firworks illuminated the skies above the town, crowds flocked to see the fist opera of this years Wexford season – Il Cappello di paglia di Firenze. Written by Nino Rota, the opera is a light, fluffy comedy which impressed both the long-time opera fans and curious newcomers.
